Will County Coroner O'Neil made 'difficult' decision to not run for reelection

Author: Editor

While he failed to return multiple calls for comment, O'Neil sent a statement to The Herald-News which read in part, "After much consideration, I have decided that this is the time for me to step away at the end of this term and take over our family business."

That family business is O'Neil Funeral Home P.C. and Heritage Crematory in Lockport. O'Neil's sister, Kimberly O'Neil-Golob, stepped down as head of the funeral home earlier this year, according to Kelly Furlong-Foresman, the funeral home's secretary. O'Neil and his wife, Jennifer, are running the business.

Bill Thoman, the chair of the Will County Democratic Party, said he'd spoken to O'Neil, who is a Democrat, late last summer as he was considering his electoral future.
